In a previous post, Sub indicated that I shouldn't use the ffdshow codecs. Which codecs do you recommend, and where can I find them?

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=40821 and I'm using it because I read posts from others saying that it worked for them.

If you're using Windows 7 (or probably Vista Home Premium), I recommend the Microsoft DVD-DTV Decoder. It works best for me.
The ATI MPEG-2 Decoder (part of the AVIVO Package) also seems to work well, but I've not used it much since the Microsoft decoder works so well.

how old was that post? it's come a long way lately..
the "tryouts" versions are very nice and add things like DTS-HD and DXVA-H.264 decoding.. i use it on all my systems, as it's usually the best performer despite not always being fully accelerated..and it's the only one i can consistently use for any hardware..intel/ati/nvidia.. there's been lots of activity in it's development lately and more to come.. it's by far the most tweakable and full featured codec out there, and plays almost anything.. beta7 is a good ver for stability, but i use the 'nightly' versions without issue last couple of years..plus they add the h264 dxva codec which is actually separate..
