Hi,

I've got a long standing issue which I have not been able to solve and I'm hoping to get some clues here.

I have a GBPVR server in my study which records my TV programs.

I have a Popcorn Hour running a GBPVR client in the living room which plays the recorded content with no problems.

I have a Windows 7 Acer Revo in the bedroom but the client there plays only stuttered video and no sound.

However, if I use XBMC as the client it plays video and sound flawlessly including HD content.

How can I get the Acer Revo GBPVR client to use the same codecs etc as XBMC?

XBMC doesn't use DirectShow, you can't compare them. XBMC's strength is the hardware accelerated video decoding based on ffmpeg and since it has native support for the nvidia ION you shouldn't have problems (although I doubt you can play a commercial BD)

Who know you might be able to get better performance by trying different decoders to get the same hardware acceleration. This is not always trivial, especially on a low powered machine like the ION. My ION does perform nicely as an NPVR client under Win7.

I Haven't tried GBPVR on my Revo, but NPVR under win7 seemed to work ok without stuttering for me when I tried it.

I don't have it installed at the moment, but I'm fairly sure it just ran the default Microsoft decoders. Wired rather than wireless though if that makes a difference. If I get a moment tomorrow, I'll try to set it up again and report back.

i bet Cyberlink pdvd10 or SAF-unlocked would work well on the ions...very efficient and lots of good reports..

Thanks martin, when you say default Microsoft decoders that means choose System Default and have no extra codecs installed right?

Is there somewhere that lists the default decoders on Windows 7?

pBS, thanks but I've tried SAF with no joy...

I can't use just the default Microsoft stuff because it doesn't handle our AC3 and it doesn't have an mpeg or mkv splitter. I simply used K-Lite standard and as I wrote I have no issues with HD content from NPVR as a client.

the microsoft decoder is named just that, something like 'Microsoft Video Decoder', setting to 'system default' is not same thing..
check logs to see which one it uses when default is selected..but better to name one specifically..
nice thing about it is can be used for mpeg2 as well as h264, and on many types of cards..

i like MS one too, and use ffdshow audio decoder for audio....
for demuxers i use mpc-hc filters...work great..Smile
i use their flash,mp4,mpg/ts/m2ts demuxers...
