I have been using GBPVR with a hauppauge 1600 both qam and analog tuners for a number of years. Recently, Comcast cable in my area has eliminated all analog and most clear qam signals. I decided to switch to using the Hauppauge HD PVR with my HD cable box. I have a winxp mce 2005 system with remote that works well at changing the channels on my cable box. I'm using component cables and the 5.1 digital optical feed to go to my HD PVR.

The problem I'm having with my new HD PVR is when I record a show, the resulting .ts file does not correctly report the audio as 6 channel, (it appears to default to stereo). Therefore, when I play the .ts file, the audio is not in sync.

If I demux the .ts file and play the ac3 file seperately, it is a 6 channel ac3 file.

If I use TME and record a show, the resulting .ts file is correctly reported to have 6 channel ac3.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

It might just be playback issue. If you play a GB-PVR recorded .ts file in TME, do you get the audio working the way you expect.

At the end of the day, GB-PVR doesnt tell the HDPVR anything about the audio format etc, and this stuff all happens automagically inside the device's drivers, so there isnt any settings you can tweak that'd affect this.

Thank for the reply Sub.

I get the same problem with the playback in TME. The problem is the stream flag in the .ts file is not being set correctly.

Interestingly, if i record a show on say channel 180 with TME. The recorded .ts file plays fine in TME and GBPVR. If I go and record the same channel without switching channels in GBPVR, the resulting .ts file is OK. But if I record a different channel, say 175, the resulting .ts file only shows 2 channel stereo ac3 when it actually is 5.1 ac3.

I even tried using the graphrecorder plugin with my own graph and that gives me the same result. I also tried the TSdump direct show filter that came with the TME but that didn't make any difference. I'm just wondering where the audio stream flag is being set or maybe a recording delay after the channel change might help.

I believe I solved the problem by putting the Hauppauge HD PVR on it's own dedicated usb line directly back to the pc. Previously, I had the HD PVR connected to a USB hub along with the mce blaster using one line back to my PC.
