Firstly, I have a working motorola channel changer executable for the comcast motorola boxes with a serial plug. Anyone need it, email me.

On to my problems...

I have the HVR-950q, it's installed using the direct.ini tweak which gives me the HVR-950q analog option. I originally installed this to tune directly through the gadget and everything worked, but I need to change the channels on my cable box. So now its Composite, External tuner.

If I record, it will create the directory but never store a file. I've installed the MCE Soft encoder, but it doesn't show up in filter show. The error I'm seeing is:
FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (MCE) MPEG Encoder

I've installed the soft encoder from hauppage, I've also installed the MCE Driver. I don't see these in filter show. Any ideas? Will graphrecorder fix this?
Thanks
Don

If you're getting that 'FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: MainConcept (MCE) MPEG Encoder' message in your logs, then it sounds like you dont have the Hauppauge SoftMCE installed.

It is installed. How do I find the names of video codecs that are on the system? I installed the MCE from hauppage, I also went to MCE's site and downloaded the real version (which would cost alot) when the trial expires. Neither shows.

You download and run GraphEdit to check if its on your system (select 'insert filters' from the menu, then expand the 'directshow filters' category).

I removed the entry for "MainConcept (MCE) MPEG Encoder" from the direct.ini for the 950q entry, replacing with something else. Yet I still see the error message about this encoder. Where is this getting picked up? Do I have to recreate my capture setup?

That name is hardcoded in the application. The 950Q needs that specific component for analog.
