Is it me, or is Live TV PQ much worse than that which is recorded? That's certainly how it looks here (recording only off Freesat).

It's you, or should I say, your setup. Digital captures are exactly the same as transmitted to your satellite/cable receivers. Playback on a PC typically involves so many variables it is difficult to compare with each other let alone with STB's.

I guess what I need to ascertain is whether the codec chain the video goes through when playing Live TV is different from that used when playing recorded shows. Recorded shows are stored as TS, which is pretty much as received, as I understand it. Yet they look full resolution, while Live TV looks very smeary, as if the bit-rate's been turned down to something low.

Thought I understood this package, having been using it since 2006. I don't use Live TV very much, so obviously there's something I've missed...

Post the pvrx2.exe-native.logs after playing a recording, and after watching live tv, and I'll check if they're using the same decoders etc.

It looks like its using the same video decoder for both playback of recordings, and for live tv, so I cant really see the picture being any different between the two.

I did notice you had the audio renderer set to 'DirectSound: Realtek HD Audio output'. It might be worth setting that back to 'system default' to see if it helps. I wouldnt expect it to make the picture look any differently, but it can make it play smoother.
