Hauppauge has updated their web site with info on the MVP-HD http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/d...vp-hd.html

If you go over to SHSPVR, there is a giveaway http://www.shspvr.com/smf/index.php?topic=12261.0

Boo! I was going to fill mine in today, if I had noticed this, I wouldn't even have posted the link. Continuing on the buy American thread Geektonic posted a link to purchase them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003FMU...B003FMUPKU

Since the question might come up it does look this is just a media player and it will not be compatible with the MVP In the notes "Access PC media with shared folders or through uPnP"

Correct. It's definitely not compatible with the MVP. It doesnt implement the MVP UI protocol.

Right now I can't see it but the ball will be in Hauppauge's support on what they are willing to provide me with to make this happen. The MVP-HD is playing in a pretty competitive market, the cheap $100 Realtek's (which aren't bad mpeg players) and the Sigma players (863x, 864x, and 865x). I figure the MVP-HD will be directly competing with the WDTV Live player (same chip, and similar distribution chains) but it doesn't seem to beat it in any way. Over the years I probably have bought more Hauppauge products than from any other company, but that mainly is because of MythTV and GBPVR support, it will be interesting to see how they can do on their own.

Edit: For clarification the 865x that the MVP-HD uses is technically inferior to the 864x used in the 200 series PCH and DuneHD, it doesn't support full BD like they do.

I just saw a post on this over at wegotserved.com and my instant joy was quickly satiated when I saw pictures of the device. Good lord is this thing ugly! I mean really! Where's the WAF?!

I've hoped for a long time that Hauppauge would recognize the Media MVP was the future. Unfortunately for Hauppauge, the market is now flooded with other options. Even if we could use this new version with GBPVR, I don't think I could abandon my WDTV-Live for something so.... Ugly.

EDIT: One more gripe - Why didn't they upgrade the damned remote?! That thing is, what, six or seven years old?!

The look of media extenders is very much personal opinion, I don't like any that much but my opinion pales in comparison of the WAF on having any computer (even mini-ITX) in the media room.

As for a remote IMO the WDTV's wins the ugly award, http://store.westerndigital.com/store/wd....108411300 and it would be the biggest flaw if the GBPVR interface ran on the WDTV Live, again it's personal opinion.

Here's a video review from an ex-forum member.

Hauppauge will not have to worry about me emulating their new UI.
