It just seems to me that a creative endeavour like the one you've undertaken should have a more creative (and catchy) name.

I don't have any suggestions myself, but there have got to be some other acronyms that trip off the tongue more eloquently.Rolleyes

If you suggested a name I really liked, I might change the name. Remember, often a name sounds good to you, but everyone else might think it sounds crappy. Same goes both ways though. I've heard a few alternative suggestions that the suggester thought was good, but sounded pretty lame to me.

We did consider g3pvr, ie close to gbpvr, but also 3rd generation.

Its unlikely I'd change the name unless I heard something really cool.

If g3pvr came close then how about gcpvr? If the last release (2nd generation) used a B as the second letter then the 3rd generation product can use a C. Wink

Personally I don't care what you call it, it is the functionality that matters.

If you do change the name of the binaries please remind users to change their firewall rules (for people using network based tuners like the HDHomeRun). Wink

Regards,
Ian.

Yeah it was more your comment that the 'N' is for 'Next'... Wasn't 'NT'='New Technology'? Just reminds me for some reason...

G3PVR is a million, nay, a bazillion times cooler than NPVR and it kinda rhymes with GBPVR. NPVR is lamer than lame. (no offence)

To be honest, I think an uninitiated outsider would find "GBPVR" "G3PVR" and "NPVR" to all be fairly similar sounding names, and all pretty lame. Smile

What steered me away from G3PVR was that "GB"PVR was hassled for a very long time as being a lame name, and "G3"PVR seems to be a very minor variation of that.

seems like short catchy names are the way of the times.

since you're in NZ, why not call it "Kiwi".. if Hulu works for a name, so can Kiwi. :p

on second thought, kiwi sounds sort of like a toddler trying to say tv... hmm...

How about The-PVR, with the emphasis on "The"? Since "the" can be pronounced with a sort of short "a" or long "e", this name would use the long "E" variant.
