Should I be enabling "Use Background Recording Service" in settings? What will be different?

I actually need to remove that setting. It was mainly there for convenience during testing.

The app is now ignoring the setting. When it NextPVR.exe starts, it checks if the service is running, and if so, uses it. If its not running, it spins up a local copy of the recording service, inside the NextPVR.exe process and uses that. This logic is really there for those occasional users that just want to watch tv, and dont want recording services etc running all the tiime.

ah, understood. I do have the recording service running, so it's already using it. Perfect.

Ahhhh, that explains a lot. I thought you had found a devious way to hide nrecord from the system Wink

No, afraid not. It was just for convenience during my testing, and for those few people that use to complain about having to have a recording service running in the background when they just wanted to watch tv.

sub, it looks like ScaryBox was able to resolve his simultaneusly recording problem using this setting (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post404130).

I will try later tonight to see if this also may help me with my problem (http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...re-failing).

Keep you posted

The application literally does not even look at this setting any more, so its not a factor. I double checked the code, and the setting is only used on the Settings->Recording screen to tick or untick the checkbox - nowhere else in the application looks at the setting.

Quote:I guess the NPVR wiki for this then should be updated or rather deleted also?

Quote:Use background recording service
Set whether to use the external NextPVR Recording Service to manage scheduled recordings and any configured clients. It is recommended to leave this option ticked as without it, NextPVR will only record TV shows while it is running. If you are not interested in recording TV shows, then you might like to un-tick this and also disable the NextPVR Recording Service to save PC resources.
I have in mind changing the app to be similar to what is described in the wiki, which is why I decided to leave the setting in the GUI rather than removing it, so probably not worth removing it from the wiki right now. Either way, its not causing anyone any grief leaving it there.

Well now I feel a bit like a pain in the butt! lol

I understand what your saying sub and I wouldn't presume to know any better. I'm just a end user with a penchant for niggling around with my computer.

I have to say though that I've had no problems with the home pvr since I checked that box. I have tried serveral recordings - overlapping - simultaneous etc etc and watched tv while recording all without any crash/missed recording or anything. Also now the pvr will sleep (S3) and wake to record, download epg etc etc. Again all without a single glitch.

It's the only change I made as I am a one thing at a time person. Good test requires it!

Is there anything else I might have done that corrected the problem?? I don't think so - in fact I am sure.

I hate to start any trouble, but I gotta tell it like it is!

In the meantime I am really enjoying a great proggy! Thanks again Sub!

I just checked again, and definitely cant see the setting doing anything. You could always try unsetting it to see if your problems return. Or others can see if they find similar improvements.
