sub,

Several times during testing of NPVR, the program crashes and reboots the computer. It happens normally when trying to watch live TV but I am not really sure if that has been the case all the times. It gives me the blue screen for a short while and then the computer reboots.

Since I have not yet transferred fully to NPVR, I thought to wait a couple of more beta releases to see if the problems remains but as I was able to capture a dump file I thought I would hand it over to you to see if you can tell anyting from it.

Not sure if I can recreate the problem but next time it happens I will try to also save away the logs.

btw, I am on XP running NPVR 1.5.21

If your computer blue screens or reboots, then its definite some driver problem or hardware instability.

You're probably best to try and read the message on the blue screen for the cause. It'll often identify a driver name the crash occurred in - this will give you clues whether its the video card, capture devices, audio device etc.

Ok, but there is no time to read. The blue screen is up for a 1/10 of a second and then reboots. Thats why I thought the dump file could be of use.

It could be HW related, but it never happens with GBPVR which just works and works....

Anyway, Ill try to reinstall the drivers and then Ill see.

That mdmp wont contain any info about the system reboot. You could look in Windows Event Viewer to see if it has info to identify the cause of the reboot.

Regardless, it'll still be in a driver or a hardware problem. Applications like NPVR/GBPVR that run in user space cant cause these sorts of problems. Blue screens and reboots occur in code that runs in kernel space, like drivers etc. There is lots of things NPVR does differently to GBPVR, and it could easily be using a different part of a driver, or doing things in a different sequence that the driver doesnt like. I'm sure its not some problem with the way NPVR is doing things otherwise everyone else would have the same problem.

I don't remember exactly where, but there's a system setting (probably in My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced) that tells windows not to restart in case of a crash. That will give you time to read the BSOD message.

Thanks, I will capture the BSOD message next time and hopefully will be able to pinpoint which driver causes the problem.
