If I buy an EGreat EG-M34A or a Popcorn Hour A-110 will I be able to fast forward and backward seamlessly?

I have an xbox 360 and an MVP (wired). On both of these when I try to fast forward videos located on my computer over the LAN, the whole thing freezes up. Would having the egreat or popcorn hour help prevent this from happening?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

If you mean true FF/RW that is high speed (2x, 5x 10xxetc) play like on a DVD player definitely no. Seeking is definitely the preferred navigation approach using NPVR/GBPVR.

Yes, yes, yes. This is exactly what I mean and need. If you could tell me where to go to get started I would appreciate it. NPVR/GBPVR? Is this something new and can DVD like seek be accomplish with this? I've been out of the gbpvr scene for a long time now. Guess things have certainly changed, although sounds like for the better.

Unfortunately you misread, I said definitely NO. Seeking will be fine, and on the NMT, FF/RW in DVD playback (GBPVR, not in NPVR) will be DVD like but mpeg ps/ts trick mode FF/RW is not seamless. SD files are probably ok, but it's better to get used to seeking.

you can use 2x4x8x fast forward if just playing the files on the egreat/popcorn hour with the inbuilt user interface
if you hold down right arrow a skip the play position appears on the screen and increases untill you release the button then jumps to that point
if you hit "1" on the keypad it will jump t0 10% 2=20% etc

but the gbpvr interface opens files faster and has lots more benefits it uses skips 1 minute etc or type in number on remote say "4" then hit skip and it will go 4 minutes
the navigation is so much better in gbpvr info on files tvguide etc

so yes it will do what you want
