I have 4 monitors in different rooms of the house connected to 1 mediaServer via 2 video cards. Ideally, I'd like to be able to run multiple, independent instances of the PVR GUI on each screen.

Is that going to be possible with NPVR?

It's already possible. Just start a second instance and move it to the monitor you want. But as stustunz said, sound would be an issue.

I don't have NPVR loaded, so I can't check.... Can you not specify the audio-out device for NPVR to use, in Settings, like you can with the filters and renderer?

It would be great if you could, and have all other settings in an config.xml/ini file, so you could start NPVR from the command line and specify the config file to use for that instance.

Interesting idea. I'v wonderd if it could be possible to have the GUI on one monitor and the video-output on a different monitor.

I've just checked GBPVR, and you can specify the "Audio Renderer", which means you can effectively pick various sound devices. So along with the "StartOnMonitor" setting, I could set up a separate instance for each room, each having it's own sound output... as long as I can specify the required settings from the command line. Can I do that?

Also, there was some mention by Sub of a new "-window" command line parameter in 1.4.7. Any ideas about what this can do/how to use it. The Wiki hasn't been updated with info on it.

I would have thought the biggest problem would be tuner allocation between instances. If I were sub, that isn't something I'd like to get into - it sounds very messy.

Isn't it the same as having multiple clients on a network, with the server part of it doing the tuner arbitration...which is the way it works already?

If you are using the recording service (which NPVR does by default), then tuner allocation will be handled by that. Multiple instances of the front end will still be communicating with the single instance of the back end recording service and it will allocate the tuners appropriately.
