sub, the last couple of days I have been working to get my DVB-S2 setup to work. After finding out information needed for scanning the channels (http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?37256) I am now working to watch and record HD channels. The shows are recording as expected but the files cannot be watched nor can I watch live TV in HD.

In the Hauppauge forum I have found a thread describing the same problem and there it was assumed that the error lied within the WinTV-CI module (http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=20788). As you see I also put out a request for assistance in that forum.

Attaching logs where I am recording a show and then trying to watch it. In GBPVR the file will not play at all, but playing the file in VLC I can see a picture but it is distorted.

Any ideas?

I suspect the USB bus is unable to deliver the full stream of data fast enough on the round trip to/from the WinTV-CI.

You might need to look at multidec options rather than WinTV-CI.

sub, thanks for looking at this. It looks like there are limitations on the Hauppauge WinTV-CI product for HD channels.

If I am going to look in to the multidec solution what HW is required. I have tried to find some kind of "multidec for dummies" but I have not been able to find the basics for setting it up. From what I can find it looks like some kind of Phoenix smartcard reader is needed.

Thanks,

Edit: I found this thread which seem to contain some of the basic information I am looking for.

Its more that some DVB-S2 muxes have a bitrate close to, or possiblt above, the maximum bitrate of USB2 transfers. They almost need a USB3 version, but I doubt that'll happen.
