After playing with mediaportal streaming TV for about a month and finally given up, I decided to give NPVR a go. So far I have had much more success than with mediaportal. Video quality is great from my server streaming to clients. Mediaportal was plagued with many problems including stuttering/stalling video which always forced a restart of their tv service (in another room).

I have one problem though. I cannot change channels (or sometimes navigate the guide while tv is playing) without NPVR semi-crashing. (I say semi crashing because the program itself does not crash, just the stream stalls and I get the message "The tuner being used for live tv is no longer available")

The great thing about this problem is that I can always go access the guide and start the live tv again and it starts no problem, avoiding the trip to the other room.

Setup details:

Server
Athlon 64 3200
2gb ram
ATI TV Wonder HD 750
MSI TV Anywhere Plus

Client
Athlon II X3 3ghz
4gb ram

I have tried some different decoders, problem occurs on all.

Current Decoder: V: MS A: MS

Tried: V: FFDshow, Arcsoft, Cyberlink, A: FFDshow, Arcsoft, Cyberlink, MCP

I have applied patches.

Log file attached.

Any ideas that would help remedy this?

Thank you in advance.

it doesn't look like you've installed the DirectX Runtime update from the pre-req's list, but that's not likely to be the actual cause of your problem.

you should post all the logs from both the client and server, it's hard to tell what's happening from just the one client-side log.

I dont use a client PC very often, but I had seen this problem myself, with some channel changes working fine, but often encountering a problem like you describe. After reading your post I decided to take a closer look. I'm fairly sure the attached patch will fix it for you.

As Reddwarf mentioned, you should also install the directx runtime from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/detai...laylang=en

It helps make a lot of things smoother, and will give lower CPU usage.

Here is a slightly improved patch. It fixed another client problem where live tv would not stop cleanly sometimes.

I was sure I updated my directx already. I guess not. Will do that first and then apply patches and report back.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Sorry to report problem is still occuringSad. I updated Directx on both machines and applied patch provided in this thread. There was a glimmer of hope when the first time I tried to change channels it did work, but two channel changes later, same problem!

I have attached new logs from both client and server.

Thanks,

Mark
