I have used pretty much every OTA PVR system on the market, and have had no problem setting any of them up, with the exception of nPVR. I have never been able to get the TV portion to work. I run dual Hauppauge 1600 cards in my HTPC. Windows 7 64-bit, Core 2 Duo chip, with 4Gb RAM, and an ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics card.

Sage, Mediaportal and GB-PVR have all worked out of the box, with few issues. Here are my log files for nPVR. When I scan for channels, nothing appears.

HELP!!!!

Are you trying to tune analog or digital? You're doing a digital scan in your logs, and it does seem to lock some channels, but doesn't appear to receive any digital data on those channels.

edit: oh, I just noticed you're getting an error when it builds the graph to do the scan: "2011-01-29 13:13:55.739 [DEBUG][1] ConnectPins failed: hr = 80040217". But I don't know what causes that. Anyone else?

I'm trying to tune digital ATSC channels only. No QAMs, no Analogs.

From the logs, it looks as if there is no valid signal input to the capturecard.

Which is strange, seeing as SageTV and WinTV 7 are working fine on this PC at the same time. GB-PVR even finds channels. nPVR is the only one that doesn't find anything. And, yes, all the other programs are shut down when I am running nPVR.

I think it's the "ConnectPins Failed" message at issue here. NPVR is communicating with the tuner, so it's able to issue tuning requests and get signal/lock information, but because the filter pins didn't hook up somewhere it doesn't actually get any data back through the graph. It's the same symptom you get when trying to run an HDHR through a firewall, just for a different reason.

The thing is, I don't know the solution to the "ConnectPins Failed" message. We need sub.

Oh Sub! Sub! We need you! Sub! Big Grin

If you temporarily take out one of those HVR-1600's, does it work?

Yep, that worked. I put in another card I have, an ATI 650 HD. Did the trick.......thanks! Will I ever be able to run this with dual 1600 cards?

You should be able to already. I'm not really sure what it wouldnt be liking about dual 1600s. I'd probably need to provide a patch with more logging to get to the bottom of it.

NPVR auto detects the driver's related "tuner" and "capture" filters, using a bit of information called the 'pin medium'. In the driver spec, this is supposed to be unique for each instance of a device, but we have seen a couple of examples of badly behaved drivers in the past, which was incorrectly giving the same 'pin medium' to multiple devices. This may be an example of this. This wasnt an issue to GBPVR, since it didnt auto detect things, and instead had big text files describing each and every device GBPVR could use.

maybe worthwhile to try with the latest HVR-1600 drivers from Hauppuage? (if you haven't already)
