Newbie needs help with HD-PVR

I have been reading for hours but need some help. Am feeding the hdpvr with a dvd burner tuner and everything is there using the arcsoft software that came with my hdpvr but I cant get anything with npvr. Will it work under "live tv" since it is not actually a tuner. I dont know what I am missing and hope someone can give me some help.

Is the problem really the HD-PVR or is it connecting to the DVD recorder's tuner? If the connection is firewire, I would suspect NPVR would not support it.

Connects with component cables from tuner to pvr and connection is good. Works fine with the arcsoft software supplied by hauppage, I just cannot see what Im missing with npvr. I have tried to search out the answers before asking the pros. The hdpvr is showing up in the devices.

you're not providing much information to work from, but some things I can think of:

you need to define a channel so that you have something to select to watch live tv or record from
you need to select decoders that can decode the stream coming from the HD-PVR. That'd be h.264 video and AAC audio (I think)

Ok I understand now and it might work. Assuming your DVD Recorder has an OTA ATSC/NTSC or cable tuner that passes through the a/v it really isn't any different then the cable and satellite boxes that NPVR works with. You really need to add channels, find an EPG source and figure out how to use IR blaster to change the tuner, to see the advantages of what a PVR cam do for you.

I wonder if what he's trying to do is use NPVR to record the DVD's via the HD-PVR? if the goal is just using the DVD burner as a tuner to watch TV, this certainly seems like the hard way to go about it.

The goal is to use the DVD burner as a tuner to watch TV as well as recording to hdd in HD. I got the picture now by adding a channel #, thanks to you. Now if I could just get audio. Have already tried differnt decoders. Thanks for your help.

As johnsonx42 wrote, it is really hard to help with such limited information and no logs. If you are using the spdif in to record AC3 you will need to install an ac3 decoder like ffdshow or ac3filter. If you are using analog, I don't know how to specify front or back, maybe switch them? sub would probably need to provide info on this.
