Hi Martin,

I think I've raised this before for a downloaded show, but I was wondering if there was away to get this working, as I have to pull the plug on the PCH every time a show is completed. Recorded ts files are fine, but it simply does not exit gracefully to the NPVR menu for downloaded Youtube MP4s on the PCH.

Tha attached logs should show two instances of this, then me pulling the plug.
Anything that I can do to help troubleshoot?

The mp4s are downloaded as files using YTD btw, it's not streaming from youtube direct.

Are you playing them from the video library?

Yep.
Same issue with .mp4 and .mts files from a HD handicam btw.
What I want to do eventually is the same as on the PC, i.e. ctrl-P a list of Videos and let them play, but I have to get past playing one first.

This was the previous thread, FYI.

Just like last time, I played an mp4 file all the way through a few times and NextPVR came back for me fine. If you are playing 60fps video there might be a problem mixing that with mvpmcx2 but other than that nothing has changed on this for years.

Arrghhh, very frustrating. Thanks Martin.

None of the files are 60fps as far as I am aware. Is there any difference for the A110 (Mine is the A100); yours is an A110 right?
Could it be the way I setup my startup script perhaps (Haven't changed it in years).

Is there some way for me to capture you some logs to see what the messages are back and forth between the PC and the PCH?
What do my logs show, pretty, much just talk back and forward right, with no resolution? How long did yours take to come back, and did your start with quiet a long "buffering" message?

Thanks, k.

You can send me the putty logs (there are a few posts that explain how to do that), but I suspect they will just tell me that it has stopped working before coming back to NextPVR I still do all my testing on the A100 but I use component, not HDMI.

To start it was about 8-10 seconds for a 720p mp4 file.

Hmm. Well, I've had a bit of an education this afternoon, but am not much wiser.
I never really got putty working, although as you can see I telnetted in OK (I think), but it did all sorts of weird things restarting.

Now, I have a Panasonic TV with both HDMI and Component inputs.

Until today, I was using the the 3 coloured Component input, with what seems to be Auto in the startup file (see below), and 1080i 50Hz in the [B]PCH setup, under "Component"[/B]. Makes sense. With this setting component worked fine, but did not play the mp4's or mts's as per the thread subject. Oddly, I could ALSO access NPVR if I switched the TV AV input FROM Component to HDMI, but with a REALLY ugly blocky 576p menu.

So I then tried Auto, in the PCH Input setting, and what an absolute nightmare, I couldn't even get INTO the PCH (via component), I got all sorts of brown and green screens, but couldn't even get into change it until I remembered the filemode button. Panic Attack!

So then I tried another setting, still in Component, 720p 50Hz, similar thing, this time with purple fuzzy lines. I was starting to feel like Getafix the Druid and his magic potions.

Back to 1080i 50Hz in the PCH setup, under "Component" (my original setting), which at least works with NPVR; I retested the file, nope, still won't go back to NPVR.

Sooooooo then I thought:

OK, let's try HDMI again, with 1080i 50Hz in the PCH HDMI menu, this time under HDMI. Note the reason I did not "use to" use this was the blocky menu.

And guess what -
1. The blocky screen is now exactly as clear as the component option was ... and
2. IT JUMPS BACK TO THE MAIN MENU AFTER PLAYING THE MP4 FILE!

Soooo, knowing that, what do you think is happening?
Why would the INPUT (Component vs HDMI) have an impact on whether the file plays OK, and jumps back to NPVR graecefully? Should I have removed a # in the startup file perhaps or added this line to Analog?

"/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 1080i --frequency 50 &"

It would be nice to be able to set it up so that BOTH work,

This is my unchanged (for a few years) startup

Code:
#echo "Shell to mvpmcx2 "

# Remove the # from most appropriate line

# TV settings as setup

/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 &

# Analog TV settings

#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m ntsc &
#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m pal &

# HDMI/DVI settings examples

#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 720 &
#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 720 --frequency 50 &

#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 1080i &
#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 1080i --frequency 50 &
#/etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 -m 1080p &

Cheers

One thing that really can mess mvpmcx2 up is having both component and HDMI cables connected at the same time and that is what I expect your problem is. mvpmcx2 needs to trick the NMT to be able to have the NextPVR interface, and this trick doesn't work with both, they use different memory areas.

You mvpmcx2 startup line is correct /etc/mvpmc/mvpmcx2 & This means take the setting from then PCH config which is absolutely the best. Auto is not an approved mode even for the PCH, it is for PCH troubleshooting only. In the setup you need to choose your appropriate mode.

OK gotcha, might be time to pull the pin on one set of cables.

As it appears to be working now with HDMI (it seems), might pull the component cables, too tired to test if it also works if I pull the HDMI. I guess I should have said at the outset I had both plugged in!
Thanks for your patience, as usual!

Out of curiosity, why do you use component rather than HDMI? Any advantage?

Laziness mainly, I keep the component cables hooked up the time for PCH testing whenever I need too. I have too many devices that are HDMI only and I don't have to disrupt things when I need to check out mp4 etc.
