My video files are h264, ac3, mkv files. I have tried using various decoders including ffdshow, MS DTV-DVD, ac3 filter. Patches 1 to 26 applied.

NPVR freezes randomly after pressing a key on the remote. It does not freeze everytime but it does occur frequently.

Triggers:
- press the ok button to play a movie
- press the fast forward button to skip ahead
- press the prev button to exit the movie

To recover the system I have to hit the reset button to perform a restart.

Why do you press the Prev button to exit the movie? I'd use the Stop button...

I dont know the answer to your problem, but I thought I should point out that when you play .mkv files the decoder settings in NPVR are ignored.

NPVR (and GBPVR before it) will only choose the decoders when it was playing file types it created, ie .ts or .mpg. For all other file types it just askes Windows to play the file, and leaves it up to Windows to choose the appropriate decoders. To fix it you'd probably have to convince Windows to pick different decoders rather than trying to tweak the settings in Settings -> Decoders.

Sub - thanks. I did not know that.

After much testing it appears that Catalyst 11.5 is causing the system to crash. The 11.5a hotfix does not help. I have rolled back to 11.3 and have not seen any crashes so far.
