I'm looking at the Netgear MCAB1001 MoCa kit and wondered if anyone has tried anything MoCa and had an opinion on it.
I'd rather not waste a day trying to run cable in a 2 story house and risk messing up my home......I don't have the tools and especially the patience and these kits look pretty good.

I've used two Actiontec MI424WR (ex FIOS routers) as a MoCA bridge to connect my GBPVR client upstairs to our home network for the last year or so. Works like a charm, at ethernet speed, and they can be had very inexpensively (2 for $50) on eBay. Both wireless and powerline did not work in my situation.

Thanks for the information. I've read about these on Amazon.

I used Motorola NIM100s for a while in my home. These were originally purposed for FIOS installs and meant to work in a frequency range compatible with cable TV. The performance with these NIM100 was pretty good, I measured in excess of 200mb/s on my run. This was more than sufficient for connecting a frontend to the server. Uptime was excellent, multiple terabytes of data went through the MOCA device before I decomissioned it.

For my application, I rewired the run to only carry MOCA traffic, no TV signal was present. My friend tried a MOCA device with his satellite system and had no luck, the frequencies used may collide with Satellite or it wasnt passing through the satellite switch.

If you have an extra power outlet, my experience with the NIM100, showed that you can get pretty high throughput with relative ease.

See ya,

I ran MOCA after having problems with wireless and electrical line adapters.

The MOCA adapters (NIM100's in my case) worked beautifully. More than enough BW for streaming HD video, and passed the signal through splitters, etc.

There are more current MOCA adapters out there now, but for me, the older NIM100's work great.
