NZ Freeview, DVB-T - varying resolution in different parts of NZ?

Hi, I'm based in Wgtn, use DVB-T and get a nice HD signal (i.e 1080 vertical resolution), eg on TV1. But recently I was in Tauranga, looking to set up an npvr box for the folks... but I noticed their TV1 only reporting 576 resolution.
They have a fairly new Sony TV and I was tuned into digital via the TVs built-in tuner.
Anyone know if the DVB-T resolution is transmitted lower in some parts of the country than others? I.e before I go any further I am wondering whether this is the standard res there, or whether they have a reception problem? (I doubt the latter because they got a new terrestrial aerial at the same time as the TV.)

maybe it was just the program at that time ? old programs will still be lower res check adds or newer programs
wont be a reception problem as then you would not get a picture at all been digital

I'm pretty sure it'd be 1080i nationwide for TV1 on FreeviewHD DVB-T. I'm sure it's only encoded once in Auckland headoffice, and just rebroadcast at the various transmitter sites.

Yeah you would think so, and stustunz, all of it is 1080i (when did it change from 720p?) some stuff is native, but most is upscaled to that.

Yeah, it could just be misreporting it. I dont know really. I've not heard of any SD versions of TV1 over DVB-T.

TVNZ upscales everything to 1080i, so it shouldnt even matter what show or advert was on at the time.

I cant comment about NZ, but the same show is broadcast at different resolutions in different parts of Aus.

Thanks for all the replies guys; encouraging to know it is meant to be 1080! Maybe sometimes the Ads /do/ go out as a lower res... I could have been channel hopping in the Ad break when I noticed this. But if you are right and the entire transmission should be in 1080 (nationwide) then it must be a Sony glitch (I'd be a little surprised as it's a late model one).
