My apologies to everyone involved with this project, but I needed to post a new thread that will hopefully shed some light on some issues that I am facing and am seeing by others. I have no experience with the prior gpvr, but notice old threads within the forums. This old info has required some digging and trying to understand where this project is at, both old and new. Most of the plug ins that I am using are now functioning correctly and I would like to set this program up with more features, but the instability and work arounds make me question what my next step should be.

I do not wish to tick people off, and only wish to make this program better. This program is the only solution that I have found in order to accomplish what I am trying to do.

Again, my apologies if this is coming across as being rude. Not my intent at all!

I will focus more in regards to the responses that are received, and how I may help!

Many thanks!

I'm confused......what is it you need help with? What issues? I see some older posts from you that discuss problems with the recording service locking up. Are you having the same issues or other ones?
Please be specific with your problems. Sub and others are extremely knowledgeable and helpful with questions. You can't find a better, more helpful forum especially considering the software is free (but feel free to donate if you use it)

It is hobby, but I treat it pretty seriously, and have put a hell of a lot of time and effort into it. The reality is that I make very little money off it. I probably made $300 profit last year, so you definitely couldn't call it a job Big Grin

I'm usually very responsive and proactive tracking down problems. The last month or so I've been busy with my day job though, and it pays the bills, so it's gotta take priority.

Recording service is no longer stopping, but my understanding that patches (test files) made available, were mainly designed to create dumps that sub could diagnose errors. Responses that I received were that there was not enough info in those dumps.

I lost all the recordings I had scheduled for last evening. Currently I am trying to watch live tv, in order to test my setup and am unable to do so, as I receive an "unable to find available capture device" message error. I have stopped the npvr service, restarted, closed out nvpr and the service, restarted everything, and still get the error to watch live tv.

This just makes no sense to me..

Hey sub.. Thanks for your quick response!

I seriously feel that this project should be more than just a project. What you and others are doing is cutting edge and I hope that everyone can profit from it. Much deserved in my opinion!

While I have your attention, I would like to ask a few questions:
- Is the core code operating system neutral, for microsoft and unix based platforms?
- If so, is the core developed around java? in reference to the xml config files..

Can you shed some light on what hardware and OS you are running? I know for a fact that XP is not the best OS for htpc apps, and some graphic cards are more tricky than others. Even some plug-in cards and motherboards don't work well together even they are supposed to...

Its .NET and directshow based, so very much targetted at Windows machines.

There is a machine independent protocol for remote client devices though, which is how we have non-windows based client devices.

Well this above my knowledge, but if time allows I will play around and see if I can catch on to some basics!

Can you tell us exactly what devices you are using? From your description, I suspect the devices themselves or their drivers may be involved. When you get the error, are the devices showing up in Windows device manager? Some devices fail to work properly after the PC has gone to sleep & then awoken. This is often down to a bug in the device driver. Or, did you install the software that came with your capture devices and is that software running in the background and tying up the devices? Lots of possibilities here, but you need to throw us a few more clues.

And speaking of hobbies... Lots of great things have started this way. When Steve Wozniak started tinkering with his apple computer, it was pretty much a hobby. As it is, the fact that Sub shares his "hobby" with us in such a generous way is much appreciated here. The fact is, Sub's project is so much more powerful and usable than most of the commercial alternatives. If you want to help Sub move past "hobby" status, the fix is simple. Make a donation and encourage others to do the same. This software is well worth it.

Cheers!
Bill.
