Auto disconnect?

I don't know if this is possible, but can a "disconnect from internet" be sent as a command from a program? Or perhaps be done via "scheduled events", etc.? I'd love to have my computer auto-disconnect when my program guide stuff has finished downloading. As it is now, my disconnect is a bit of a gamble. Since like most folks, I have dial-up, I'm concerned about all my internet time being burned up doing nothing.
Thoughts?

windows can handle this, just set it to auto disconnect if idle for say 20 mins.

also try the rasdial utility that comes with windows:
