UK Pal 4x3 dvd dont auto play back as 4x3 on 16x9 widescreen tv ( thru vga)

I have installed the latest at this time of the software and also tried the final patches

My tv is a 16x9 wide screen.

problem - 4x3 dvd files on my pc under Videos - incl ripped ones from my dvd collection - auto show as widescreen

I have to use F7 or the right click menu that allows to set aspect ratio - auto set does the the job immediately for the film showing. But next time I view a (differnt) dvd I have to do the same thing. I have chosen auto in the main settngs in misc.

Any thing I have missed as I am new this?

do u mean the text file NPVR in the log folder? Its rather long

It seems the issue happened with the OVERLAY renderer. If I use the VMR9 then OK. Trouble is then I get tearing. VMR7 seems ok. I am using XP by the way. Is the problem with OVERLAY intractable? as with it my cpu use is very low

It sounds like you are having similar issues to ones I went through quite a while back when I was using XP. It didn't seem to matter what video card I was using either. Both Nvidia and AMD/ATI had similar issues for me. The XP EVR renderer worked better but didn't allow as much customization of the video sizing on the screen if I remember correctly. I was able to minimize the problems with appropriate codecs but my best upgrade was Windows 7. It seems to handle video rendering much better than XP. I was actually able to sell off my video cards and use the onboard video for both HD and SD content with no issues at all. It might be something you want to consider.

I have the same problem here, all DVDs are played as 16/9. I need always use F7 for 4/3 ones.
This only happend with DVDs, all video are played OK.
WinXP + VMR9 FSE here.
