Hey I've got an idea - I don't really want my HTPC to connect to the internet (updating windows & stuff all the time seems like a major hassle) - but it is connected to my "home" pc via an ethernet connection. So...

Can I use my "home" pc to get listings via XMLTV, store that in a folder, and have my HTPC look for that file a few times a day? Seems like my "home pc" would likely be turned on at least once during such attempts if I have my HPTC look often enough. Would this work? Am I a nut for thinking this way? Ok, thanks guys.

Shouldn't be a problem. Is you're HTPC on all the time? If so, then it could be better to have your regular PC download the file and place it on a shared folder on the HTPC. Then you can just have the HTPC look for the file once a day and not have to worry if the regular PC is on or not.
Or set up your PC to have a shared Internet connection so that your HTPC can get the listing itself. There are plenty of how-tos on the net to tell you how to setup a shared Internet connection.

hmm.. yes I like the idea of putting it in a folder on the HTPC. Very nice. Right now I have the HTPC sharing a 'net connection - and I dislike this idea very much since my HTPC seems to dial for no reason and use up my valuable 15 hrs/month of internet. I am able to control the dialing of my home pc much easier for some reason.

Thank you very much - great idea.
