There are some channels that I used to receive that I no longer receive from my provider. I can't seem to get rid of these channels from my EPG. I removed them from schedulesdirect but they still show up in my tv guide listing, which is frustrating. How can I remedy this problem?

In config, disable the channel on each tuner it was enabled on.

It seems there should be a more elegant way. Is there a way to completely wipe out the listings and start from scratch? I would actually prefer that.

Even if you do a complete EPG re-load, the channel will still be enabled... GB-PVR doesn't assume a channel is gone just because it's not getting EPG data for it any longer. There are plenty of reasons you may want to have a channel defined with no EPG. Yes, it is true that when you define a capture source the channel list is first populated by reading an EPG - but GB-PVR's database is driven by the channels, not the EPG. You actually can't truly remove a channel from the database until you have no EPG data for it, you have no pending or recurring recordings for that channel, and there are no Ready recordings for any show on that channel - until then, the channel has to be in the database.
Once all references to the channel are gone, you can disable and then delete the channel from each capture source, and then go to the channels tab, uncheck the channel and then click "Remove Unreferenced Channels".
To come closer to starting from scratch, I guess you could delete and re-add your capture sources and do a complete EPG re-load there. But that seems like a lot of work to accomplish the same thing.
For the immediate purpose of making the channel disappear from the TV Guide, disabling it (and deleting it if you like) from each capture source is the only way... it's extremely simple, which has a certain elegance to it on it's own.
