I've been through a period of trying to get various things working together - DVB-T TV, DVB-S2 TV, new 5.1 sound card, lots of ripped videos and DVD. The main challenge has been getting the 5.1 sound for movies etc through an SPDIF lead while keeping all other sound sources working.

Anyway, I'm there on that one now thanks to a few people on here. BUT, I still have one problem to resolve. When i play a DVD, everything is fine but after a while, the controls stop working. I can't pause, FF, RW etc. i was just after some pointers? Is it likely to be the decoder? Or could it be the DVD navigator (don't know how to change it or check it). Or something else?

Are you sure NPVR still has focus when this happens, and nothing else has stolen it away?

Yes, it does. It's a bit odd because it's like nPVR has frozen but the DVD keeps playing. It won't even react to the keyboard and mouse.

I'm using the Cyberlink Video/SP decoder.

I think I use a Cyberlink decoder for my DVDs too, as it's about the only one I've found that seems to work reliably with the navigator on Windows 7. It's a PDVD7 one though.

So it seems I'm on my own with this problem then :-(

So let me ask another couple of questions :

1. What video decoders do other XP-users use for DVD?
2. How do I tell what DVD Navigator I'm using and do others know what they are using for comparison?

I'm so close to getting my set-up right... but of course it never will be because I'll find something else to fiddle with :-)

The log file will tell you what decoder is in use when it builds the graph for playback. I think you used to be able to pick which one using Settings, but the option seems to be gone now. They've always been a nightmare to get working right though.

I had good luck with the Nvidia Purevideo decoders for DVDs on XP. That was on GBPVR though, and I don't recall which navigator I used. The Nvidia decoders are pretty old, but you could probably still find a version lurking about somewhere. I would not recommend them for HDTV though.
