Hi all,

I've read some threads that caution against using GBPVR and NPVR side-by-side n the same machine, especially when scheduling calls for both applications to be recording at the same time. That makes sense, however I need to make sure that I'll be OK under the following situation.

Let's say I have 2 cards in the system ... a 1600 and a Colossus. I'm intending to run GBPVR against the 1600 (and not the colossus) and NPVR against the colossus (and not the 1600). I would have an antenna and a stb feed the 1600 and a different stb feeding the colossus.

Any problems with the 2 programs coexisting and recording at the same time?

Thanks.

Yep, so long as they're not trying to access the same tuners at the same time, then there's no problem.

I'll take a guess as to why.
He could use the transcoding features in GB to create lean commercial free recordings for NEWA.
For all my atempts I'm unable to get comclean to do it's thing with a TS file.
Back in GB I could "clean" my Daily Show & Colbert mpegs before transcoding into a 3gp for my phone.
I've been considering such an "extreme solution" myself.

First off, I don't use either GBPVR or NPVR as undoubtedly most of you do. Both of these programs have only 2 reasons to exist in my world. 1) To record TV shows and 2) to allow me to schedule those shows over the lan. If WinTV allowed decent lan scheduling/monitoring, I wouldn't need either of these programs. Neither is used as client/server and neither is used as a front end or to deal with any other media. The PC is in a back room with it's own directv box(es). Recorded shows are organized, played and deleted outside of GBPVR/NPVR from other PCs on the network.

Second, I've had GBPVR working flawlessly with the 1600 (antenna and stb) for years. I want to add HD recordings not OTA, ie, ESPN, etc. To that end, I've can pick up another directv HD receiver (very cheap) and have picked up a colossus card. If I could drop colossus into GBPVR together with the 1600, I'ld be good to go. Unfortunately, GBPVR doesn't work with the colossus so that means NPVR. Also, programs recorded with the colossus are much more difficult for me to work with (h.264) in terms of playing and editing of commercials. I've been trying to to work with the colossus and npvr for a couple days now and have not had any luck getting flawless recording, but I'm still searching and reading.

Perhaps one day when npvr matures and I learn more about npvr, the colossus card and h.264 files I will be in a position to ditch GBPVR, but it's not now and probably won't be for a while. In the meantime, I'm not willing to jeopardize my current flawless setup (GBPVR/1600) for the advanced method (NPVR) when NPVR doesn't do anything for me except work with the colossus.

PS: Iain, thanks for the answer.

Sounds like your problem is with your transcoding solution not NextPVR howevr if you remux your recordings to mpeg-ps before transcoding you should see the same results. Hauppauge do supply a great tool http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post407285 that can help you out.

For the OP note that Colossus h264 files cannot be remuxed to mpeg-ps
