What are the "must have" plugins?

There seems to be a few different Music plugins, video plugins etc....do they all need to be installed or do they duplicate each other wiht minor differences?

it really just depends on the interface you like the best, the my videos interface is a lot different than the video archiver interface, same with my music and music albums, same with pictures and my pictures.

also what features do you want?
for video i would use either Video Archiver or my videos, the "video library" just doesnt have enough options for me.
for music, my music seems the best, and is maintained.
for pictures, my pictures
for programs, my programs (its the only one Tongue)
for recordings, this is the tricky one, it depends on what skin you want to use, the next version of xrecord will have full skinning capabilities so once that is out, i would recommend that.
guide2j is coming along nicely, once the bugs have been sorted out of that (in a couple of weeks) i would recommend that.
mpeg2dvd is a nice plugin if you have a 350 or mvp.

the best plugins would have to be
- Video Archiver
- XRecord
- My Videos
- My Music
- My Pictures
- My Programs
- guide2j
- weather
- shut down is a must.

good plugins
- Music Albums
- the lcd plugin
- dvd2mpeg
- dvdripper
- picture library (can be a little slow thou).
- PIM
- comics
- jukebox
- solitaire

i might have forgotten one or two

comskip is a requirement. That app rocks. I am hoping for autoskip. That way I will not have to fumble for the remote everytime a commercial appears.

If you are the kind of user whom uses the search guide. Try fastfind it is the search guide on steroids.

For advanced scheduling the CDK Scheduler.

Comskip is better than sliced bread... I just wish it worked better on my cartoons (Dragon Ball GT, Spider Man, X-Men)

I love Fast Find... I use it to look at spike tv and sci-fi for any show or mini-series that I do not normally pick up

There is nothing pretty about Video Archiver, but I don't think it is possible to beat the layout. Having series, eposides, and descriptions on one page is brillant.

And how can I leave out my two children... Guide2J and CDKScheduler. I'm working on them in my spare time and I'm still hunting for bugs, but, the vertical guide combined with guide restriction is a great feature. There is only about a dozen channel I really watch. I restrict my guide to those channels and can see a half day of shows on one screen.
I don't know how I would live without prioritizing what will be recorded. When Andromeda in syndication is recorded over some reality crap that has no business to be scheduled in the first place, I sit back and smile.

And everything that tipstir does looks great.

^Bump^

I am configuring my new HTPC / Server box and trying to decide which plug-ings to use. For sure, I am set on "My Pictures" and "My Music", but I am getting totally hung up on which "video" plug in to use.

I have a number of recordings already (from my test box, 2 DVDs that I ripped to MPEG (DVD2MPEG), & a few DIVX avi's (I had to d/l the first 3 episodes of "The Office"). Moving forward, I will be copying all of my DV home video tapes onto the media server for easy viewing as well.

Here is what I have come up with so far on each of the plug-ins I have tried:

My Videos -- I would prefer to use this one, b/c it has the same look and feel as the other "My" plugins (read: wife factor). However, I am having some problems with it though: 1) The show discriptions in "preview" and "details" view modes are often truncated. 2) The "scan" button for TV shows does not work for me at all. 3) I can not figure out how to add information manually (such as show description, etc) to existing existing recordings. (The "scan" button works great for ripped DVDs, btw.) From what I can tell, this plug-in does not deal with pending recordings at all.

XRecord -- I can't for the life of me figure out how to download pictures. Ctrl-o (as mentioned in the wiki) does not seem to do anything -- same with the other ctrl-<x> keystrokes.

Video Archiver -- This is probably my favorite plug-in because it just seems to work. All of my entires have pictures associated with them (via GetTVInfo / GetDVDInfo), the interface is clean (albeit different from the other custom plugins I will be using). Supports both current and pending recordings. GetTVInfo pulls down info of my previously recorded programs (mostly -- it gets "Thomas & Friends wrong"). DVD Info Editor is very cool -- I just wish there was a "TV Info Editor".

tipstir Wrote:Darrin what happen to your Tivo Skin Project? Yes I have to agree with D75 choices except the My Programs I don't use.

My Video (1st place)
My Music (2nd place)
My Pictures (3rd place)
Video Archiver (4th place)

There are also utlities also:
