Hi I'm new to NextPVR (version 2.4.3). I use it with an HD HomeRun HDR3 (OTA only) running on Windows Home Server 2011. Everything seems to be working great so far; I can record shows without issue. The EPG update from the GUI works great but after I manually kick that off, it never updates again. I have it set in the Misc2 page like this:

TV Guide Minutes: 240
EPG Update Hour: 1

I wasn't totally clear what "EPG Update Hour" meant from the wiki description, if that means every hour it tries to update or just at 1AM each day, but regardless, it's not updating. My logs are attached.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I just noticed something about EPGCollector. I will try that and see if it fixes my issue.

Yes, the EPG update hour is the time of day it updates the EPG... so 1=1am. The problem with the OTA EPG in the US is that it only covers about two hours at a time, little more than "Now/Next" info, so it's really of limited use for scheduling future recordings. Your EPG update at 1am worked fine, but that only gets you a few listings until about 3am.

I strongly recommend using Schedules Direct for EPG service in the USA, as NPVR has built-in support for it. Alternately, you can use MC2XML to download the Windows Media Center EPG and put it in an XMLTV.XML file (see the sticky in my signature for help in that direction).

I don't know what good EPGCollector will do you, as it's purpose is to collect the encrypted MHEG-5 EPG data from New Zealand Freeview-T broadcast and put in an EPG.

It works (kind of) for EIT data also, provided they are more than a couple of hours. However I found that DVBGuide works better.

It is able to gather a number of different types of EPG data (MHEG-5, EIT & another one at least that I can't remember right now) it can also get EPG data from DVB-S sources & is used a lot in the UK & Aus.... I have even seen users from the States using it as well (but I guess that would be for Satellite).

One hugely important feature about it is the developer is really really willing to help & add features etc. think of him as another sub <grin>

ah, thanks for the info that EPGCollector does more than just MHEG-5. Still, grabbing the same 2 hours of data by some other method isn't really going help in this situation. For use in the USA for more than just watching TV, I don't see any options but Schedules Direct or MC2XML.

I'm sorry for semi-hijacking this thread but felt I needed to say something to clarify a couple of point... skcamow refer johnsonx42's message above

I think it would be worth you posting whatever problem you were having with it in the EPG Collector support forum to make it better & also remember sub has added support for duplicates detection when using it to the next release (refer this thread)

Overnight is a pretty bad EPG two hour sample too. Half of our local stations go off the air near midnight (oddly not on cable) and many that stay on show Infomercials or TBA programming. Programming late into the state explains why I still have a burning desire to buy ginsu knives.

Thanks for the responses/tips. Sounds like EPG Collector may not be the best option for me. I'd rather not have a cost associated so I'll probably skip Schedules Direct. However, it sounds like mc2xml may do nicely. I'll follow the instructions outlined here and see if I can get it going.

There are some pretty good instructions for NextPVR on the mc2xml site as well: http://mc2xml.hosterbox.net/#npvr
(and don't worry, it's actually very straightforward to set it up... explaining it is harder than doing it)
