PROBLEM: LiveTV video shuts down 1-2 seconds after starting. Screen goes black, audio keeps playing. How do I fix this?

Windows 8 regular, not Windows 8 Pro
NextPVR 2.5.9, SAF V6.1.7, all codecs ffdshow

Disable the volume OSD plugin, try different decoders and then zip and attach a full set of logs if it still occurs. Also, make sure that ffdshow is not set to "Only allow applications" (or something like that) or that NextPVR.exe and NRecord.exe are in the "allowed" whitelist.

YAY, live TV is now showing. In Settings>Misc2 I unchecked "Use alternate OSD with missing video," which I assume is what you meant. I've been trying other decoders for hours, and tried again, rebooting each time. But this time I noticed that the Settings> DVD decoders were LAV. After I changed them to ffdshow, Live TV started working again. THANKS for the quick reply. I'm thrilled. I just hope it stays working!

I'm back. NextPVR just stopped working again. I've not changed the settings. Blank screen, no audio.

Any help? I'm all ears!

Zip your entire logs folder and attach the zip file to your post.

Hi.
You should use PDVD 12 video decoder + LAV audio decoder for LiveTV, FFDshow is bad option for LiveTV.
Check you PM how to unlock SAF.

I'm pretty sure hoborg is providing that information.

Thanks for the help. Before generating another log, I wanted to try something else, as no settings had changed.

I unplugged the USB capture card and plugged it in again, started up NextPVR and it ran normally. Duh. I spent hours trying to track that down, figuring reboot would have done the equivalent of unplugging USB.

With it working, unless there is some interest in digging into this more, I'll save the bandwidth for now. If it breaks again, believe me, I'll try these excellent suggestions. I hope this solution helps someone.

I have a twin USB DVB-T tuner where the second tuner disappears after about 2 months use. A reboot does not cure the problem but I have to either power off the computer for 10+ seconds or just unplug the device for about 10 seconds after which it reappears in NextPVR. I did wonder if there was some command which would disable the USB outputs and the power then enable it again later as just resetting the USB output does not cure the problem.
