So, a simple VLC convert/save operation using "keep original video track" & "keep original audio track" seems to clear out the issue. The second commercial break is where I'm seeing the problem. I think it's where the local news teaser shows up. I guess I'll try adding a couple of extra lines to the postprocessing.bat for FOX programs . . .

I'm 3,000 miles too far away to have experienced the same thing. Similar effect maybe and very maybe a similar cause... but mine was definitely due to the text in the video.

mine happens with hdhomerun on qam from time warner cable only on 1080i broadcasts not 720p; so i have no issue with fox as they broadcast 720p; more on cbs than anything else; the files are ok in xbmc. my files will play but cannot skip so the comskip breaks cause the playback to stop. when using ffmpeg to correct it i notice the problems are always at the beginning of the files; the ffmpeg with npvr won't really fix it; i use the ffmpeg from serviio or one of the windows compiled downloads

I tried a couple of different ffmpeg builds but it would just quit at the "wrinkle", leaving me with a 20 minute video. The simple transcode operation using vlc (latest version) command line is pretty quick and cleaned up my latest Fringe recording. I just put this code in the postprocessing.bat for channel 705 (My FOX channel). Here's what I used, in case anyone would like to see it:
Code:
"c:\program files (x86)\videolan\vlc\vlc" -I dummy -vvv "%~dpn1.ts" :sout=#transcode{}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ts,dst="%~dpn1_vlc.ts"}} vlc://quit

What were you using for your ffmpeg command?

It was actually the 'copy' line that you posted in another post:

Not sure where to mention this so I thought I'd just mention it here: There are new, beta drivers for HDHR which actually include explicit support for NPVR: "hdhomerun_windows_20130104beta1". I've gone ahead and tried these out and I seem to have a bit more luck with watching live tv on problem channels (like FOX). I've also moved around some network connections so that may have something to do with my apparent improvements. YMMV.

Argh. Thanks for reposting this. I have been looking for this thread for a while. I have been seeing this issue on my local CBS affiliate and was looking for that postprocessing batch command so that I can fix my recordings.

Thanks for the good word on the beta drivers, maybe I will try those first.
