So, I have my hvr 1800 working well with my STB!! Then I added the HDPVR but when I import the xml data (same file as the hvr1800) all the channel numbers get reorderd. So instead of having only 100 channels I get 200 channels and the HDPVR channel numbers are all renumbered so they are wrong. I want all my tuners to have the same xml file and same channels. I don't have to fix the numbers manually do I?

What am I missing?

I've updated with a picture...as you can see Number is 413 but the channel number is actually 2. Can someone also explain to me what number, name and details mean?

You can probably fix it by clicking the 'bulk map' button, then clicking 'auto-merge channels with the same name'.

Hi Sub,

thanks, but I tried that already and it didn't fix the problem. For example when I chose channel 5 CBOFT it went to channel 416. Maybe it's the order in which the tuners appear in the devices tab which tells NPVR which channel number to choose?

For instance my HVR1800 has channel 5 CBOFT correctly as channel 5 through S-video but my HDPVR has channel 5 CBOFT at channel 416. Which channel number does NPVR choose? Does it depend on the tuner priority?

Sorry, I don't think if there is any easy fix. I think it's happened because you've got channels on two different types of analog devices, and because they're not the same type it's renumbered the channels to avoid clashes - even though in this type of setup you would have preferred them to use the same numbers.

OK...will you be patching it in a future release?

In the meantime can I change it manually? Would changing the "number" column be the correct thing to do? Or is it the number in the "details" column?

If I change my the HVR1800 to a Colossus will this problem be fixed? Note that in this case it'll be two HD boxes and one s-video signal for a total of three STBs.

The more I think about it the more the action NPVR takes in this case doesn't make sense. The two are independent of each other and renumbering or reindexing them is fine but it still doesn't explain that it assigned essentially random numbers to blast. NPVR can index them separately but the number to blast should not be different or at least unchanged from the source.

I think the bulk mapping fixes the indexing problem but I think there is a deeper implementation issue in terms of the channel number to blast.

It makes a lot of sense too me to leave it as is, otherwise you will be treating SD and HD signals equally. Rogers by default sends HD out component if the low channels have an HD equivalent.

So what is a guy like me to do? I've got a cheapo 32" LED TV and don't really care about HD...I'm usually watching talking heads and I want to have as much utilization of my hardware as possible. GBPVR was "dumber" and just kept the same number and allowed me to deselect the channels from the tuners which is much easier then manually remapping all my channels.

Also, if I wanted to separate the channels then I can do this manually. I use MC2XML, so for the SD channels I can just tell it to scrape the SD channels and for the HD channels I'll use a different xmltv file (I'm doing this now in GBPVR on my old machine). Besides, HD channels are numbered differently than SD channels so if I wanted specifically an HD channel then I'll just choose the HD channel - I do realize however that other places may not have this in place so it may not apply to everyone.

As is, NPVR isn't doing anything really sensible I think. Besides, how does NPVR know what is HD and what is SD? I thought that maybe NPVR knew so I tried to trick it by using the S-Video input but it still did the same thing.

Anyway that's for Sub to decide and I'll accept whatever his decision is.

I guess now I'm going to try and manually reassign the numbers and hope it works. Otherwise I'll be buying a Colossus and hope that fixes things. My goal is to have at least three tuners.

The HDPVR actually seems to be your problem so I don't understand your logic going to a Colossus.
