Hi, I'm trying to setup nPVR but am having problems. I go to devices and then device setup. Device is enabled. Common interface is none. I type in my country and region. Nothing appears under device channels so I hit scan and then my computer crashes. I am using windows 8. Any suggestions how to get nPVR to run properly? Thanks.

You need to post your logs so we can see what is causing the crash.

The NPVR 2.5.9 - Current Patches and Getting Started info thread contains some useful information on where to find NPVR logs and how to attach them to a forum post. Basically what you need to know is:

Quote:NPVR LOGS
NPVR logs pretty much everything it does in several log files. The default log location is in the logs directory under the npvr data directory:
Windows Vista & Windows 7: C:\users\public\npvr\logs
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\logs

You MUST ZIP and attach your logs to any support post. I can't stress this enough: Everyone providing help on the forums is pretty smart, but we're not clairvoyant; a good problem description AND logs makes it a lot easier to see what's going on, and you're more likely to get a correct first answer. To attach the logs, use the 'Go Advanced' button when posting, then click the paperclip and follow the onscreen instructions.

Two things stand out in the logs, you have not installed DirectX as stated in the prerequisite, and if you want to use an analog tuner you'll have to install at least the multiplexer required. See the wiki here http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alogDevice
If you are planning to use xbmc as a frontend you must make sure that npvr is working with its native UI first.

What tuner devices do you have and what kind of tv signal (analog, digital etc)? If you get an exception when npvr crashes please copy the exception text and post it here.

Hi

Thanks for the info. I use digitalnow Tiny Twin DVB-T HDTV as an aerial. I downloaded and installed Direct X as advised. I navigated to nPVR device setup and like before no channels were showing. I clicked on scan. My system crashed again. A message appeared saying that there was a kernel security check failure. I'm happy to provide an exception report but don't know how. Thanks for any help. It is appreciated. Regards

If you get an exception message, click on the "Details" button and some text will appear below. Now click anywhere in the text or navigate to it with the down arrow key. Type ctrl-a to mark all the text and type ctrl-c to copy the text to windows' clipboard. Now open a Notepad window and paste the text into it. Store the text in a file in the logs directory (name it exception.txt or something thelike) and zip it with your logs an post it here.

BTW it is normal not to see any channels during setup until after you have done the first scan. Form your description thou, it sounds like the installation is not 100% correct. Maybe you could try running the installer again as Administrator (right click on the installer exe and select "Run as Administrator").

Hi. Thanks for your post. I uninstalled nPVR and then installed it as an administrator. However, I still run into problems. As soon as I hit scan in device setup my computer crashes. A message appears which says "Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info and then will restart. kernel security check failure". I cannot see an exception message you refer to. Any suggestions? Thanks

By default NextPVR calls home checking for updates, but that failed in you logs. Does turning it off remove the error?

To me it's starting to look like there may be a problem with the driver for tv-card. Have you tested it with some other software to make sure it really works?
