Hello,

I am using windows 8, npvr 2.5.9, schedules direct ...

Generally this all works just great, but I usually only do recordings from the HD channels. I now am attempting to record some non HD channels for my children (children shows). So lets say I record something from my HD channels, they work correctly with no problems. If I go to record a non HD channel, the happauge hd pvr won't actually start recording and "live tv" will be black. if i change to any other channel it stays as black as well. the only way i can get it to work properly after all this is to uninstall the happauge drver, and then reinstall the happauge driver. does anyone have any ideas whats going on here? I have also tried to enable delay recording after channel change but that seems not to have solved anything.

anything you need from me let me know. I can quickly and easily recreate the problem by switching from hd to non hd channels. its driving me nuts.

so reading around it seems it has to do with going from "1080" to "480" the change of resolution causes a "crash".... makes absolutely no sense to me.

If at all possible configure your stb to force a fixed output rate. I use 720p since you end up with the benefit of the box doing the h/w deinterlacing.

i will look into that, i know i can change the output rate for HD stuff, but i am unsure if i can force the same for 480... currently i have my box set to stretch 480. if that makes any sense... but for component connection i have it to output 1080i, i think i change it to 720p... and if you believe the quality of picture will be the same then i can give it a try....

If you can't get 480i/p upscaled change the capture resolution for 480 to that of 720 in config.xml Otherwise when the channel tunes from 480 to HD NextPVR will often choose the res. of the original channel and HD looks like crap with the lower bit rate.

yea i can't upscale for a fact, but if i do that config.xml change, would that basically trick the happauge pvr to think that the 480i is actually 720? thus possibly avoiding a driver crash

No but your h264 decoder might like it.

so changing the config.xml file didn't solve the problem.

for some reason it still craps out when it goes from HD viewing to SD viewing. this is just crazy.

I have tried that, but I will try a new USB cord, who knows maybe it is that simple.
