Hauppauge Colossus -- Recording bitrate and resolution

Can anyone point me in the right direction -- I am using a Hauppauge Colossus connected via HDMI for both audio and video. Is there any way to control the HD recording bit rate for video / audio and is there a setting for the recording resolution?

The resolution always matches the input resolution.

You can control the bit rate using the <Mode720p>/<Mode1080i>/<ModeSD> settings in config.xml. It's worth noting that sometimes it cant detect the resolution correctly with the Colossus, in which case it falls back to the default bitrate settings in <ModeSD>, so you may need to set those to your preferred bitrate,

Can anyone recommend some good settings for video bit rate for a HDMI High Definition 1080i input form a Satellite TV set top box source. I would like to lean in the direction of best quality - larger file size over savings disk space with a smaller file? Also what are the ranges available for video bit rate on a Colossus card?

From memory, the max with this device is 20Mbps, and 24Mbps peak. It's not worth getting anywhere near that high though.
