I've given up on the live tv problem for now, intending to either reinstall Win7 or put a new htpc online. But, in working on trying to get a client version of NPVR running on the htpc I've run into the problem that it doesn't seem to remember any settings I change. I completely deleted the first installation, including manually removing all files on the C drive in both locations. I then rebooted the pc and then installed NPVR. I did not start the record function. I went to devices, checked the client box and then entered my office pc (server) name and the server address for the database file. Closed out that screen to see what happened and the result was nothing, no tv connection, no music or video files. So, I went back to the devices tab and none of the changes I had made were still there. The client box was unchecked and the server and database addresses were back to the 'hushpc' entry. Why is it doing this? I can see the server pc through NPVR (settings for file folders, which revert to a C. address as soon as I close that screen. I'm attaching the log files for the client pc in the hopes someone can tell me what I'm missing.

I'm not aware of any reports of this behaviour from other users, and there is no known issue that could account for it.

It sounds like it's not managing to save your config.xml file. Maybe manually check that it's file date is being updated when you leave the application.

Did a full reinstall of Win7 on the htpc which seemed to solve most problems. I set the htpc as a client and am able to see the epg and watch live tv. I can also now see the server music and video folders. BUT, I can't play any of the files in either of them...just get a blank, black screen when I try to play a video file. Did I miss a setting?

What format(s) are the files you can't play? Could be a file type/codec issue. Here's a Wiki page you might have missed: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...Video#toc5

The videos are either mp4 or mkv. The music is flac. According to the config.xml file, those are all covered:

<AllowedMediaExtensions>^.+\.(mpeg|mpg|m2v|avi|mp4|mov|m2ts|wmv|iso|rm|dvr-ms|ts|mkv|vob|divx|flv|m4v|wtv|mp3|ogg|m3u|wma|aac|wav|m4a|fla|flac)$</AllowedMediaExtensions>

As I said above, I can see the listings in both the video and music folders, I just can't get them to play. I using the same decoder selections in the client as I sm on the server.

It's important to note that NextPVR's decoder settings only apply to file types that NextPVR records, ie ".ts" files. For any other file type, including mp4 or mkv, NextPVR just askes Windows DirectShow to play the file and it takes care of the rest. DirectShow looks at the decoders and splitters you've got installed to find a combination that'll give you audio/video.

In this case it sounds like you've external playback components installed on your office PC, which handle mp4 and mkv files, but these are not installed on your HTPC. To fix, you probably need to install something like the LAV splitters and decoders: http://files.1f0.de/lavf/LAVFilters-0.57.exe

For FLAC, you'll need to install a FLAC decoder on the client. I think I use xiph Flac codec, or something like that, try xiph.org.
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

The LAV download solved the problem. Thanks so much.
