I have NextPVR 2.6.2 and XBMC 12.2 installed. I set up a menu item in NPVR to run a batch file that exits NPVR, runs XBMC, then rerun NPVR when user exits XBMC. Why? I have a lot of recordings that don't play in NPVR, but play fine in XBMC. I'm wondering if it's a NPVR codec issue. Does anyone have any experience with this?

yes, it's the decoders that you have (or don't have installed)
If you want a one stop fix codec pack for NPVR, the SAF codec pack works very well. I have used it for 2 years any not had any problems of note.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ght=hoborg

you will need to send a private message to hoborg to get the full unlocked version.

if you want to resolve the specific codec problem , you need to look in the npvr log files after reproducing the problem of attempting to play back a recording or upload the log for others to comment.

From my testing and experience, LAV is not the best video decoder, the audio decoder works well if you don't do some postprocessing, then it quickly gets very cpu demanding. As gEd says, Cyberlink (PDVD12) is a better video decoder.

or if you're running Windows 7 as your signature says, in my experience there's no better video decoder than Microsoft DTV-DVD.

As others have said avoid the LAV video decoder! I uses ffdshow and Cyberlink video decoders but can see no difference in picture quality although MPEG2 usually has to be enabled in ffdshow as it is disabled by default. Choice tends to be made on other features such as how well it handles a "skip" or starts after a pause.

How does the OP "use cyberlink"? Do you mean buy the full version or use the free version?

download trial install
locate clcvd.ax (copy to another folder so that if you remove trail later you still have the decoder )
register with direct show filter manager http://www.softella.com/dsfm/ at bottom
only tried this in W8 32 bit may not work with 64 bit
