Hi, I presumed I'd be able to play my recorded TV shows without any hassle, streaming over the network. Does anyone know a player for android that will play the TS files that NPVR creates? .. or how do you do it?

As Alex says, MX Player is worth trying. Other people have mentioned DicePlayer, VPlayer and VLC. Depending on encoding / bitrate / resolution etc some will work better than others.

Cheers,

I tried MX player and it didn't work. As for format, bitrate etc, doesn't npvr put out the same ts files for us all when we record something? Ie. Aren't my recordings files exactly the same as yours?

No because ts files are just a stream of what your broadcaster put out and not all broadcasts are the same. (there is PAL vs NTSC for a start).
My ts stream for UK HD does not have the same properties as your SD/HD stream in NZ.

I should've asked earlier - are you using nDroid v1.x or nDroid TE? If it's the latter then there seems to be a problem with playing stuff from Recordings. Try from the Media -> Videos view. I have a fix for the next release of TE which is coming soon.

No not quite - npvr does work the same for all recordings as in it mostly just writes the stream as it comes but it depends on the broadcast standards as to what the recorded file contains, i.e., the video and audio encoding such as mpeg2, h.264 etc. Some players will handle (decode) some better than others but, as I said, if you're using TE then it could simply be the issue with playback using the Recordings view.

You'd be hard pressed to find an android device that will play our Freeview HD files - maybe an S4. Because they're 1080i which is much harder to play than 1080p.

What device are you trying to use?

Hi Brian, did you ever get around to fixing this? This is the one thing that is stopping us using Ndroid TE on our tablets. Cheers.

Yes it's fixed but a sequence of problems has delayed a new release. Sorry, it will get there.

Cheers,
Brian
