Automatic EPG updates not working

Hi All,

I recently rebuilt my NPVR machine onto a Win2008r2 box - thanks to those who helped me get over a few hurdles to get that working! But I have the same problem I was getting on my old install - namely automatic EPG updates dont seem to work. When I manually update it works like a dream, but not automatically.

I'm guessing some logs will be of use, but dont want to spam with all of them - looks to me like the only 2 needed are ndigitalhost-## and npvr. Would I be correct in that assumption? (I have attached nrecord as well just because it also seems to be updated recently - although I would think that would be when a recording took place!)

The automatic updates are done using NRecord. It is often good to get all the log (.1 .2 and .3) which is why I always ask for the whole folder to be compressed and uploaded.

Yes the logs are fine now thank, but I can't see any reason why the overnight EPG update from the stream sees minimal data.

Possibly a bit of straw clutching, but I'd be tempted to try changing the EPG update time to... say... 4am

Looks like boringgit has already tried 2am and 8am, anyway I don't know why the time would matter for DVB/ATSC EPG data. I wonder if Current Patch 3 might be called for? Some users disable automatic updates in favor of manual.

Another matter unrelated to EPG: Looks like the DirectX end-user runtimes are not installed. Do you see a warning when you open settings? http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...requisites

I tried the patch on my previous machine because it sounded like it might help... It didn't but it can't hurt to try again...

Yeah, I did try other times - I had wondered if the number of "closed" channels in the middle of the night might reduce guide data but that didnt do much either...

I was wondering if there are different time-outs for the scheduled update as opposed to the manual - just a theory but when I do a manual update it takes a loooong time - I'm thinking about 15 mins (but its pretty boring to watch, so my own perception may be exaggerating that )

I did install the runtimes, but I'm not sure if 2008 is just ignoring them. Are they needed on the server side? I dont use it for playback, just recording.

Just checked - yeah, directx is installed - there is no sound card in the machine, so perhaps thats why it complains?

It might be a matter of permissions, when you run a manual epg update it is NextPVR.exe that runs in your account that does the update, while the nightly update is run by Nrecord.exe which runs in the local system account.
