Hi Guys,

I've had NextPVR working for a while now using a SD DVB-T dongle. I've recently upgraded this to a DVB-T2 dongle to allow me to view HD broadcasts which works great. Recorded programmes however, seem to only have a resolution of 720x400 rather than 1920x1080.

I'm just wondering if there is a setting I'm missing somewhere, or if perhaps this "HD" stick I've been sold only has a resolution of 720x400.

Any advice would be appreciated Smile

Cheers,

Dave

When it comes to digital recordings, you'll always get whatever resolution video the broadcaster is transmitting. i.e., it's resolution of the recording is unrelated to do the capture device you're using. Digital recordings are just a dump of the bits being broadcast, and the tuner just gives the application access to that bitstream - it doesn't do any video encoding etc.

So, if they're broadcasting HD, then you'll get HD. If they're broadcasting SD, then you'll get SD.

Ahh I see. Thanks for the quick reply. Smile

I'd expect a 1080p stream from a HD channel, rather than 720x400. I'm wondering if anyone else has found the same when recording ITV1/BBC HD

say about the file?

I'm at work at the moment, Jim. But I'll check it out when I get home later and report back. Smile

The resolution for HD channels in the UK is definitely 1920x1080 (although some of them have been 1440x1080 in the past) even when showing upscaled - ie originally SD - content.

Have you done any merging of channels? Perhaps you've merged, eg BBC1 SD with BBC1 HD and the tuner priority (or the reverse priority option) has you watching Live TV from an HD tuner but recording from an SD tuner.

You could try disabling the SD tuner(s) while testing.

Posting some logs will help too.
