Hello there.
For the best part of a week, I have been searching high and low for a good PVR program that was easy to use.
When the digital switchover occurred last week, I thought my old USB TV card, a pinnacle pc tv device, would be able to pick up the digital channels, but it couldn't, it only did analog.
I had been using a commercial product called snapstream Beyond TV to listen to and record TV shows with the device. It was a great piece of software, but development was stopped in 2010 and the product is no longer supported.
I bought a new TV tuner stick, a Kaiser Baas and tried to use beyond TV with it, but it couldn't find any digital channels when I initiated a scan.
Then I tried using the total media package which came with the card, but because I am totally blind, I could not use the software because it did not play nice with my screen reader and I had to get sighted assistance, however, It was able to pick up a few channels, so I knew the tuner stick wasn't faulty.
Oh well, it was off to google for some research.
after many hours I came across Next PVR and downloaded and tried it, and was pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to use. Even though the main GUI can't be used with screen readers, I can still use the right click menu and navigate with the arrow keys and enter on the option I want, and there's also the web interface which is quite accessible to people using screen readers.
Unfortunately, I do not yet have a roof mounted antenna, so I can only get a few channels, but it's better than nothing.
Once again, thank you for this wonderful product. Perhaps a digital amplifier would suffice in the meantime.
