NPVR version 3.9.2 (161119)

I have been having a few issues with zero size or shortened files being recorded. I have also had times when the recording did not occur due to the device not showing as found in NPVR, but is shown to be there in windows device manager (I originally thought this was the only issue, but not). The device issue mainly occurs with my new tuner Hauppauge QuadHD Tuner so I am wondering if you do not yet support this device. Also for this device, the status window may not show it there, but it is actually recording and is shown as found in NPVR settings...

For the zero size files here are some examples on 3/29/17, device was found in NPVR (I started checking each day)...
Imaginary Mary - shortened file
Blackish - zero
Empire - zero
Marvels Agents of Shield - zero

On 3/12/17
Elementary - zero but this was a day where the device was not found following waking the computer from sleep

I have attached zipped logs for both dates.

I also can say that on 3/29, and I think another day when I had the issue, that my computer was connected via VPN to the internet. I don't know why that would matter for a pci tuner, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

One possible issue to explore would be signal strength. "The QuadHD is essentially two dual tuner cards bridged on the same PCB." So it would seem that your input signal gets split in two (for each tuner card) and then split again at each tuner card. If you have a weak station or two ......

The other thing you might want to play with is <WakeupPreRecordingSeconds>90</WakeupPreRecordingSeconds>. This parameter determines how far in advance of starting a recording to wake up your PC. You want your computer to settle down after waking up but before recording.

I do have a signal booster attached and did not have issues when this was two dual tuners, which were replaced by the quad.. I will try the wakeup parameter...

Or maybe you do not need the signal booster anymore? Just something to think about.

I recently purchased a QuadHD also, and this morning I discovered a few shows with zero bytes as well. NPVR Version 3.9.2 (161119).

According the the Hauppauge signal monitor, I average a SNR around 25-27 (green level) on that channel.

My computer runs 24/7, never sleeps or hibernates.

I accidentally deleted my logs while testing, but if it occurs again I will post them here.

I had 9 zero/failed recordings with my WinTV-quadHD.

I did a manual test of a quick recording, failed. I did the same test on my "live tv" box with that has the USB WinTV-HVR-955Q and it succeeded.

Doesn't seem to be an issue with signal strength. Woth (20's)and WBQC (25's) are my weakest signals and Wlwt (5's) is my strongest.

I found this odd. All together I had 9 failed on various channels. Some movies some TV show's.

I restarted the WinTV-quadHD computer and did a manual quick record and it recorded ok. (ellen & Ripley's).

Spitballing here: I've had over 351 successful recordings with the QUAD no issues. There was a summary notification of Windows 10 from Windows Defender that it did a scheduled scan (nothing found). Maybe the new malware scanner in the Creators Update had the processes locked??? They rebuilt Windows Defender for the latest release of Windows.

Either way a reboot seems to have fixed the issue.

If you haven't broken it at least once, you're not doing it right.

What was the name/time of a failed recording, so I know where I'm looking?

Two of them were:

Hazel.S03E32.Maid for a Day.ts 4/10 Start 12:29 pm End:1:01pm

The Californians.S02E32.An Act of Faith.ts 4/10/2017 Start 5:59am end: 6:31am

They ended up be 0.00KB each, The XML files get wrote also.

Sub, so far today I haven't had any issues. There wasn't any updates yesterday other than Defender.

The only thing going on during that period of time was Defender doing a weekly scheduled scan.

This seems more like BrettB's back to back problem then Windows. Does Hazel.S03E31.Lets Get Away From It All.ts stop after 30 minutes and padding or does it continue into the missing episode.
