I've recently made the switch to NPVR and have it configured using two Pi's running XBMC (Gotham build of Dec 15th) - The addon version is 1.9.5.

Sometimes when trying to start a channel I get an error 'Tuner no longer available' but if I look at NTray.exe status it shows the tuner is writing to a file for the channel I've tried to tune. The NPVR log doesn't seem to contain any glaring errors either..
I have attached logs (including XBMC) of a tuning attempt that generated the error message, then I pressed stop (in XBMC) and tuned the same channel, that time it works fine. (So the log is 1 failed tune, followed by 1 successful).

I did a bit of googling, and some people suggest disabling the timeshift feature in the addon (seems to be on by default) but if I turn it off then I can't start any channel at all!

Any ideas what could be going wrong?

It looks like you have the proper (non-3.1.1) version of the addon for timeshifting and the RPi is simply not able to play the data in that stream. The message is bogus on bad data. If itv hd works in NextPVR it looks like a Gotham Or OMX/RPi issue

Thanks, I'm not sure how the addon reads the live stream but would it be any help if I made a short recording and tried to repeatedly play it via the Videos > Files menu? - As I'm guess that would exclude any 'addon' related issues, and either prove/disprove that it's something to do with the video playback itself in XBMC ?

Interestingly I didn't have any issue like this using the same clients with Mediaportal, which (I think?) uses the same file formats etc as NPVR. Which swings me more towards something in the addon.

Testing live tv is like test a new file each time there will be slightly different nuances parsing. If the station plays in NextPVR or on xbmc for Windows (worth testings) re you sure it's not problems iin the alpha?

This is was your bad first attempt, xbmc could not find the data in the stream

Yeah, sounds sensible to check it inside NPVR first - I'll give that a shot later and see if it runs into the same issues.
Originally the error message kind of threw me, as it seemed to be some backend tuning problem, but it seems that the error message in XBMC doesn't relate to the actual error at all :p

That message is misleading, for timeshifting it could be as simple as a blocking warning on read.

I did some testing with the RPi and in every case, I got the "Could not detect TS packet size, defaulting to non-FEC/DVHS " message as above causing a failure on LiveTV

Taking this further I installed X-NEWA and it streams live tv from NextPVR just fine. One of X-NEWA's modes is to use sub's PVR playback and the odd thing was that played fine in X-NEWA too. Once it played fine in X-NEWA I could go back into the PVR Addon and live TV. Based on what I know about X-NEWA and the PVR Addon, this looks like an initialization error in XBMC specific to the RPi's OMX Player.

Hi Martin,

You directed me here from a different thread http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post473267. Can you confirm... does this mean that it's possible to work around the live TV problem by just using X-NEWA once beforehand?

Cheers,
Jon

Hmm, that's interesting. What version of the X-NEWA plugin are you using? I'm getting a "Unable to load NEWA data" error with v2.2.7 and Gotham Beta. I'm using the same connection settings as with the Live TV plugin. HTTP access works fine from a browser.

Cheers,
Jon
