Every night when I got to bed my PC's are asleep. Every morning when I wake up my PC's are awake. I'm trying to figure out what is waking my PC's at night and preventing them from going back to sleep. Both machines are windows 7 machines. Here is the results from powercfg...

First thing to start with in Device Manager is to make sure your network card, mouse and keyboard are set to not wake the computer.
I had the same message last year and had to change the time that NPVR updated the EPG then all was fine.

I think you need to have the keyboard and/or mouse allowed to wake the computer from sleep. Having the WOL enabled on the NIC is also desirable.

The previous screen shot was from my client machine. It has a NVidia NIC. The settings on it are to only allow WOL packets...

My server machine has a Intel NIC. This is what I get with powercfg on this machine:

Here are the power management setting for the Intel NIC:

I'm taking an guess based on some searching via the web that the Wake on Pattern Match setting may be the problem on the server machine (even though the Respond to ARP request without waking system etc. settings are set). I'll disable the Wake on Pattern Match setting and see if the client is still able to wake the server machine. I'll also wait and see if it fixes my PC's ability to go back or stay asleep.

On all my machines, a quick press of the power button brings the system back. Most disable the mouse since vibrations can cause the mouse to move and wake the system but unless you have someone using the area by the keyboard, you really don't need to disable that.

Well so far... Disabling Wake on Pattern Match isn't the ticket. It appears that it prevents the client from waking up the server for NPVR and Mediaportal.

So re-enabled Wake on Pattern Match. Client machine can now once again wake server machine when using NPVR and Mediaportal clients on client machine. However, server machine is almost immediately woke back up upon going to sleep. So... I shut down the client PC. Once the client PC was shutdown the server machine was able to go to sleep and stay asleep. With all that, it appears that the client is causing the server to be awakened. Of note is that neither MP or NPVR client were opened on the client machine for this experiment, but the client machine was apparently still waking up the server. Services still running perhaps...

My keyboard is a wireless with trackball. It has an on/off switch. It won't wake the PC.

So client machine is shut down. Put the server machine asleep. Server machine stays asleep. Go turn the client machine on and login (without starting any applications). Server machine gets awakened. Server machine will not stay asleep when put to sleep while client machine is on.

So... on client machine... Stopped NPVR services. Now server machine will stay asleep. So what gives?

Don't know. Don't care (in a nice way). You don't need the NextPVR service running on client machines ... configure the service to never start.
