Hello,

I'm new to nextpvr and I've been debugging on the setup for a few hours now and have not seen anything similar to what I'm experiencing.

My specs:

AMD A10
8GB RAM
Windows 8
nextpvr 3.1.1
Tuner: Hauppage 950q

I'm able to install the program, tuner recognized and tuner also detects signals when I scan. In the next step where I am to set up the decoders, the window just hangs. Inn the Decoders settings all I see is
EVR
Default (Recommended)
Default (Recommended)

and nothing else. I've update the .NET Framework to 4.5.1, Included dx9 runtime, added .NET Framework 3.5 also.. nothing has seemed to work.

Attaching my logs. If anybody can help out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

The problem might be deeper than this, but have you installed video and audio decoders? If you installed WinTV with the 950Q, you should have something showing in the decoders windows. For North American TV, you will need an MPEG2 video, AC3 audio and MPEG1 audio decoders. The rest can be left on disabled.

I'm not sure what to recommend for video decoder, you could try the LAV decoder. You can use the free AC3 Filter for the audio. Use the EVR renderer for video and leave the audio renderers on default.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions. My problem is indeed deeper and does not appear to be caused by nextpvr. I tried opening the technical information page from windows media player and that also hung which suggests to me that it probably related to Windows and DirectShow. I did all the windows updates, used codec tweak tool to fix broken references, disabled and re-enabled windows media player with no success.

I found C:\Users\Public\NPVR\config.xml and manually edited the Decoders section to use LAV video and audio decoders and Voila! It worked!

So I never found root cause to my problem, but I got what I needed. Now I'm a happy camper.
