I'm not tech-savvy so please be patient with me. I just bought the device, I tried to get it working with SageTV and gave up after a couple of days. Hoping NPVR is easier to use. I can view channels both in the Silicon software ('Quick View') and in NPVR but in both programs there are no channel names, everything is listed like this:
Channel....Name
5001........Unknown
5002........Unknown
5003........Unknown
Am I off to a bad start? Or are things supposed to start off that way? Anyway I saw a blog recommending Schedules Direct so I signed up, hoping there was a way to map channels automatically. I went to the Bulk Mapping screen, put my cursor on the first row/channel and selected 'Schedules Direct' and '1. OND' and then I got a couple of popups asking me if I wanted to bulk map. I clicked yes and then nothing seemed to happen - I'm still stuck with the above list of 'unknown' channels.

Do I have to map the channels one by one? (I really have no idea what I'm doing).

Sorry, yes you probably do have to map the channels manually. I'm guessing you're using cable, and cable companies in particular tend not to provide any channel names so there's nothing for NPVR to use to auto-map the channels.

Once you've mapped one channel, you can use Bulk Map to map the rest more quickly, but it'll still be a manual process. The biggest challenge will be to sort out which channels are which. The Silicon dust channel database MAY help you: http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/

Ok, thanks!
But things have gone from bad to worse. I mapped two channels and then stopped to see if it was working - went to the program guide and good news it showed the data, but now it won't play anything, just get a black screen. Before I did the mapping I was viewing channels just fine, the only thing I 'changed' was to unplug the Prime device from my laptop for a few minutes and then I came right back. Silicon software is still playing the channels just fine. Maybe I'll try a reboot. Weird.

Channels are recording, I can navigate to the .ts file and play it in Windows Media Player, just not getting any playback in nvpr.

You scanned with the 'HDHR' device on the Settings->Devices screen right? Not the 'ATSC'/'QAM' device.

Did you have you cablecard inserted, and had rung the cable company to bind it, and had scanned in the HDHR software prior to scanning in NextPVR? If you, the entire channel scan should have only taken about 2 seconds, and the channels would have had proper names. If you hadn't, then the scan would have taken much longer and you can end up with channels without names etc. It sounds like the latter has happened for you.

Wow. Help from the man himself. Thanks! Correct I used the HDHR device and disabled the ATSC/QAM devices.
I called the cable company to activate the card a couple of days ago, to get it working in the Silicon software at least. Not sure if what you refer to 'binding" is something more than than that. I will look into that.

The black screen is solved - I don't remember playing around with the decoders but something must have changed. I switched my MPeg-2 decoder back to to SageTV MPEG-2 decoder and now I get playback again. Thanks again!

What do you get when you enter this url into a web browser, with the ip address of your HDHR:

http://<ipaddress>/lineup.xml?show=unprotected

You're probably going over my head (doesn't take much). I tried using IPConfig to get my IP Address (but I'm guessing it's a NAT based address) and I get page not found. I also tried it with local host:

http://localhost/lineup.xml?show=unprotected

and page not found.

By the way I just mapped a bunch of channels manually. Looking for a way to backup the mapping so I don't have to do that again...
