Can I have one computer that is a client for 2 computers each running NPVR?

I've got 2 computers. Each computer is running NPVR and each NPVR is being fed with its own Directv box.

On a third computer I've got NPVR running as a client to 1 of those computers. Is it possible that this computer can be a client for both of those computers?

Fraid not. A NextPVR client relies on the npvr.db3 database file on the server. A client can't connect to more than one npvr.db3. Why can't you run a single server that is connected to two DirectTV boxes?

The directv boxes have to stay where they are and that's in completely different rooms and not very close. I can place a computer next to the dtv boxes but I cannot place the dtv boxes next to each other.

Any chance of installing the second NPVR in a different location and moving around various files to different locations so that 1 instance of NPVR doesn't even know that the other instance even exists?

I'm pretty sure that the client settings are stored in config.xml. You could have two config.xml files and batch files that renames configA to config or configB to config and then start NextPVR. You might be able to bodge something so you can stop and start NextPVR via the batch files to switch servers.

I can't see why you would like to do what you are asking?

Could you explain the purpose of what you are attempting and why? That may help?

Sometimes one of the NPVR computers is recording something (1 dtv box = 1 channel) and the other NPVR/dtv box is idle. I would like to pick which box I am a client to based on which one is available.

I am trying various tricks with the config.xml file to get this to work. Still hasn't worked properly, but I've got more thoughts to try.

In a perfect world, I would have 2 icons. 1 icon would launch NPVR as a client to computer 1 and the 2nd icon would launch NPVR as a client to computer 2.

This exercise really only relates to watching live TV. Recordings for both go to a common server. Martin and Graham helped me get that working a little earlier.

Nice, understood now. Hopefully Martin (mvallevand) may answer as to whether his: Network Recorder is capable of this. That will at least give a direction for what you are attempting.

As Graham says, you need to have two config.xml's, configured for each server and a batch file connected to each icon, or one batch file with a selection menu that renames the appropiate config-something.xml to config.xml prior to launching NextPVR.exe. I'v done it in the past so it is possible.
