Can someone explain what the difference in the NPVR tray icon means. I know when the "n" is red it's recording. I am assuming when the "n" is white it means it is on and idle. But what does it mean when the "n" is white and there are 3 dots in each corner?

It means nothing - I don't get it on my machine, but I've seen a couple of screenshots showing it. I think it's Windows occasionally rendering it wrong.

From my experience the white dots indicate that Ntray is not connected to the recording service.

Reddwarf... If it isn't connected to the recording service, will right clicking it and restarting the recording service allow it to connect rather than reboot the computer?

From my experience: it won't respond if it is not connected. Use the scripts thst comes with npvr, "Stop npvr service/Start npvr sercive".
