Hello,

I'm looking into getting a Colossus 2 and using a DirecTV DVR. I was wondering if you can use all that DVR functions within this program? Like an on-screen remote control like a Slingbox has? I really want to be able to watch TV on my computer and not have the lag that a Slingbox has. Thanks for reading my question.

I've never used a slingbox, but in this type of setup you end up using NextPVR's DVR features (and UI etc), not the DirecTV DVR features.

Okay, so I would need to use a DirecTV remote control to be able to watch recorded stuff from the DirecTV DVR on my computer? My DVR has four tuners so I would want to record on it, not my computer. The Colossus 2 would just be a way to watch on my computer in full HD.

NextPVR only knows-about / cares-about about stuff that it's recorded. It has no knowledge that your video source is a DVR in it's own right, and might have recordings on it.

You might be able to fake the experience in by watching live tv in NextPVR, then using your DirecTV remote to interact with the screens your DirecTV set top box produces. You'll likely see about a 2-3 second delay between key presses though, since this is how long it takes for the signal to get through the device's video encoder.

If you're going to be recording on your DirecTV DVR, I can't really see any point in using NextPVR. This is not how it's intended to be used.

Surely there must be a better way to do whatever it is that you want to do.

Hmmmm... Darn. I was hoping to use it to archive recordings from the DVR as well.. Sounds like you would be better off just using a non-DVR but one tuner.. bleh.

you probably could do that, but I'd use Hauppauge Capture or Capture4me (http://www.capture4me.com/) for that. NextPVR is much more about scheduled recordings based on electronic program guide information. Trying to use it for what you want will likely only lead to frustration.

Thanks for the info, that capture4me does sound like it would be better for my situation. NextPVR will still be used for my OTA uses when Windows 10 hits though! Big Grin
