Hi Guys! Long time listener, first time caller. I have never ever had a problem I could not solve by reading this forum. Until now.

Just upgraded from 3.3.8 to 3.4.8 (Schedules Direct necessitated it, you know) and now one of my two HDPVR2's shows not to be present. Either by itself shows up and works fine. ArcSoft can use either when they're both attached. I'm no log guru, but I don't see anything fishy. I'm attaching three NPVR logs, one each with just one HDPVR2 attached, and one with both. Also a FilterCheck log, in case that helps.

It's WinXP SP3 if you care, and it's not mission critical, so just about any abuse is acceptable, short of formatting and reinstalling Windoze. Any ideas?

It looks like it should be detecting both. Next step would normally be to give you a patch with some additional logging, unfortunately I'm away on vacation right now, so can't do that for a couple of weeks.

FYI, I have voiced my concerns to Schedules Direct about how long the previous API was supported. They assure me things have stabilized now, and we shouldn't see a repeat. This version should be supported for years.

More info:

Both devices are on the device screen and enabled, one just says it's not present (and obviously doesn't work when I try to use it).
And when I go to Device Setup, the Device Identifications are identical, including the little "1" at the end which I take to be the instance number.
As I recall, in 3.3.8 one of them was called "HD-PVR2 #2" on the device screen.

And please don't think about my unimportant issues while you're on holidays. It makes me feel guilty for bothering you. <Donate>

My sister thinks highly of me, so for my upcoming birthday she sent me another HD-PVR2. With three connected, I still only see two on the Devices screen, unless I first delete the two existing devices and rescan. Then all three come up and two of them are marked as not present. Log attached.

ArcSoft was exciting, as it showed all three devices, but two of them had the same name, and if I switched around betwixt the three, quite often it would be using two at once (not always the two with the same name) and overlaying video and audio from the two.

Experimenting a bit, I find that it is always the lowest serial number that is present, no matter the USB port or order of attachment. I'm sure that's expected, as that's the order in which they are enumerated.

I decided to see if a complete reinstall (as opposed to the initial upgrade install) would make a difference. I stopped the service, copied the Program Files\NPVR folder and the Application Data\NPVR folder to a safe place, uninstalled NPVR, and deleted those folders. I did a fresh install of NPVR and immediately after the install the Devices screen showed all present. But as soon as I did anything, like go back to the main menu and then back to settings/devices, only one showed present again. Lots of logs, nothing interesting that I can see.

Can you see 3 devices with the Hauppauge Capture software?

No, it only shows one in the dropdown, and it's the same one that NPVR says is present. ArcSoft shows three. The Hauppauge tray tool shows three.

I've found the cause of this, and fixed for the next release.

I've attached a patch you can try. I'm not 100% sure my current build is compatible with 3.4.8, so I'd advise backing up your original file first, in case you need to go back.

Wow, I had just about convinced myself that it was something on my end, since noone else had chimed in on this issue and surely I can't have a setup unique in your vast ocean of users.

It detected perfectly (of course, it was from sub). The only problem is that when it tries to use the second HD-PVR2, it sets it to the wrong input. I can see that in the logs. I can use ArcSoft to set it back right again (side note: ArcSoft has two HDMI settings under audio. Only one works. What's the other one?) but when NPVR goes to use it, it once again sets it up wrong. I have it set right in the Devices screen (deleted it and put it back in to be sure). Curiously, it does not do this to the third one. It works fine. I also took it back down to two tuners and it still did this nasty trick to #2.

Also, from the logs, the devices seem to be numbered 1, 2, 3, and 3. On the Devices screen, they are "no number", #2, and #3.

This could all be a consequence of the patch not matching 3.4.8 as you said, but I thought it best to mention it.

As I'm sure you can tell from the logs, my process was to view the first, then set it to record, view the second (unsuccessfully), then set it to record (zero byte file, but hey, it tried), then view the third.

I'm sorry I never mentioned it before, but these are all the 1512 species of HD PVR2.

Oh, and by the way, <donate>.

A picture is worth a thousand

There is quite few users with these types of device, but I'm not sure if any others are using multiple of these devices. Most only have one, often in a setup with other types of tuners also present.
