Well, this is my first post to any of the forums at GBPVR. I have been scouring the forums for nuggets of support and information... I am wondering if there is any faq or guide to all the hardware/software elements involved in the workings of GBPVR or even more generally Windows XP / Windows 2000 in general. More specifically, the OS settings, drivers, codecs, software, hardware etc. that go from the coax connector on the back of the capture card, through to the pc monitor, output jack on the card or even to the network server that might be running on the pc.

Please, if this is the incorrect forum, lemme know... I am guite knowledgeable about Windows operating systems from the point of view of standard usage, not the more demanding and specialized needs of a PVR or video server.

All comments are encouraged!

That's a little soup to nuts....can you narrow it down by saying what you have to start with? I'm sure you can get some guidence on where to go from there.

I am not looking for guidance per se, I am looking for a general faq of the nuts and bolts of running a pvr on a windows machine. This would help me out, and I believe other newbs on getting started with GBPVR. I guess what I'm after is putting a little more meaning behind the most general hardware/ codec issues many people go through when getting stated with this thing.

Is that any more clear as far as what I'm looking for?

thanks,

Maybe a PVR101 - specifically related to how GBPVR works with hardware and the WinXP/2K OS.

Thanks, byopvr is what got me started too! And led me here with the "PVR for under 200 bucks". I will scour that site as well... and maybe just start asking more specific questions here... I just think the knowledgebase is here to create a little FAQ with a lot of definitions...

to be continued...

I'm sure there is a site/page out there for what you are looking for specifically. I can see where sub would be reluctant to have one here, because doing so would open him and the forum up to hardware and software quesitons of all kinds (more so than now Wink ). It would be like MS giving out how to build computer questions. Sub, like MS, wants to keep folks focused on GB only.

Try looking for links on PVR sites...I found a few while I was learning that were generic and had the best chance of a comprehensive FAQ. I'm sure ppl here would still sound in on specific question, nonetheless.

I think you missed his point. He is asking for a guide to run GB-PVR on a Windows machine. I don't keep up with all the codecs, etc so I have struggled to get it all configured. I found a good write up to get me started. I ould like to pick up where this left off and build a quick guide. Ideally, there would be one for US and one for PAL. While I appreciate the plug-ins, many of tehir readme's leave a lot to your imagination to configure!

Happy PVR to me
